Vijayalakshmi, who is 65 years old is a resident of Kuruvimalai and has two sons namely Sivaraj and Karthick. Her eldest son got married and started staying separately while the other son stays with her and works for a private company. Since her husband is no more, Sivaraj supports the family from his small income. During the lockdown, her son was not able to earn any income and they were struggling to make two ends meet. Therefore, Vijaylakshmi decided to get in touch with the Smartpur centre and she got to know that the centre is asking for support to meet the emerging need of producing more masks to protect one from COVID 19. She made around 645 marks in two slots by her own and earned a little income of Rs. 3870 (Cost of each mask was Rs. 6) which helped her family during the difficult time. She continues to make more masks which is the only source of livelihood for her to supports her family.
